John Cruickshank suggested the band become John Lee's Groundhogs when they backed John Lee Hooker on his 1954 UK tour.

50 years later, The Groundhogs remains synonymous with crossing over the blues to prog rock and rock-blues, with best selling albums ‘Thank Christ For The Bomb’ (with their anthem Eccentric Man) -'Split' (which won a Gold record) - and ‘Who Will Save the World? The Mighty Groundhogs’, ‘Hogwash’ 1974’s 'Solid'.

They cut ‘Live at Leeds’ with the Stones and the single Cherry Red’ meant they became the first album band to appear on Top of the Pops album spot.

The mid-80’s ‘Razor’s Edge’ hit the newly formed indie charts and introduced them to a new generation of fans.
